Arthur's 2021 AIDS Vaccine 200 Fundraising Page
The AIDS Vaccine 200 (AV200) ride is an opportunity for all of us to have an impact against HIV/AIDS.
Consequently, I commit to honoring and representing your financial contribution over the next few months as I train to cycle 200 miles, over two days, as part of the 2021 AV200 ride.
I have two immediate reasons for participating in AV200:
First, in the last year, I left behind my home state of California to build a new life in South Carolina. The move occurred during the peak of COVID-19. For me, this meant creativity and patience would become essential for identifying a supportive, open-minded community in my new home. In the months that I’ve lived in South Carolina, I’ve been fortunate to meet an amazing network of friends through recreational outdoor activity (primarily running, and now cycling). As a result, participating in AV200 provides an opportunity to further connect with new people, new geography, new organizations, and overall a new home.
Secondly, participating in AV200 is an opportunity to educate, raise awareness, and financially support organizations dedicated to lifting individuals and communities challenged by the detrimental impacts of HIV/AIDS. Since the 1980s, we’ve had amazing medical breakthroughs which help reduce rates of HIV transmission and improves the quality of life of those living with HIV/AIDS. Nevertheless, decades later, there is still no cure for HIV/AIDS. Furthermore, local/global access to critical medical treatments and crucial community services remain dangerously uneven.
We must not be passive in the fight against misinformation, stigma, discrimination, financial/housing/food insecurity, and access to affordable/quality healthcare. We must continue to fund organizations that are doing important work to help individuals, families, and communities challenged by HIV/AIDS. And we must continue to fund crucial research that leads us closer to the eradication of HIV/AIDS.
Thank you for your support and consideration.
